Jīng

‘canons’. Collective designation for Jīng shàng and Jīng xià, two chapters of the Mòjīng consisting primarily of brief definitions, principles, and propositions. In some contexts the term is used more broadly for the fourJīngandJīngshuōchapters taken together. Modern scholars such as Liáng Qǐchāo drew attention to the corresponding ‘head’ characters of JīngandJīngshuō passages as evidence that the canons and explanations originally formed an integrated textual system.
